Wedding Date TBD

Hey guys! Time for some real talk…the Mr. lost his job, which is obviously a really difficult, stressful experience.  Then you add-in the fact that we are planning for and paying for the majority of our wedding and you have your basic nightmare.  The past few days we have been frantically trying to make our wedding date work and figure out a plan to survive on just one income. But, in life something has got to give and it looks like it is going to be the wedding date.  Obviously, we are both devastated! While we are more excited than anything to get married, we want to make sure we are financially responsible and delaying the wedding is really the only option.  It is really important for us to start our marriage together without resorting to adding any debt to make it happen.  If we are lucky it will just be a few months, but we haven’t gotten a final answer from our venue yet.  So keep us in your thoughts & prayers.  We will update everyone with more info as we get it.

Hopefully, I can glean some sound advice to other brides-to-be out there to help you prepare for something like this as we go through it all and turn it into some great blog posts.  I am trying to be positive…indulge me.

Writing Your Own Wow Vows

One of the things that was really important to me about planning our wedding ceremony from the beginning has been writing our own vows.  For me the traditional vows are beautiful but, a bit impersonal.  Plus, I think there is something so intimate about sharing your heart with your soon to be spouse.   The love we feel is always there but, we don’t always take the time to say it nearly as often as we should.  I started working on my vows almost immediately after getting engaged.  Finding the right balance of sweet, funny, personal, and short is much more challenging than I thought.  So, I started poking around online for some inspiration which is when I found The Wow Vow.

The Wow Vow is a personalized vow writing or rewriting service that aids you in writing the promise you make to one another – simple and pure in meaning, but often times the hardest to write.

Karen Leigh Hopkins is an Emmy nominated and Humanitas Award winning screenwriter, known most for her work in films like ‘Stepmom’ and ‘Because I Said So.’ As part of The Vow Wow service she will get to know you on a personal level and guide you through the vow writing process. Most importantly, she will help you say what you mean and mean what you say.

After all, with all the time, money, and promise put into your BIG day, you don’t want to not say all that you wished you had. You deserve that, so does your partner, and anyone else lucky enough to witness such a life affirming, and life changing vows. They should be left saying only one word – ‘Wow.’

While, I didn’t hire The Wow Vow I did get a lot of inspiration from their portfolio and their general approach to writing some of the most important words of your life.  Check our The Wow Vow here if you are in need of some inspiration like me.

DIY or Buy?

The wedding dress…I NEVER, NEVER…EVER thought I would be DIYing my wedding dress.  But, after going to several bridal boutiques and just not finding the right dress…I finally said yes to my Mom’s dress albeit with a bit of a DIY element.  Obviously I am not going to be able to go at this project alone so, I have enlisted the help of a professional.  However, I still consider this a DIY project because believe it or not if you are going to be embarking on this journey you are INVOLVED! Much more involved than I originally anticipated, but I have been loving every second of it!

The design has been a work in progress…and I feel like every time I meet with our dressmaker it gets better.  This past Saturday my Mom and I went for another fitting and it is just coming along beautifully.  I am so excited! I can already tell this is going to be one of my most adored elements of our BIG day!

So, in my experience this was a definite DIY.  I think it goes without saying that it is a very personal choice.  However, I will say it’s important to make sure you are open to options that you may not have thought were for you…because they may be better than you could have ever imagined.

Here’s a little sneak peek of the dress…

The Best is Yet to Come

You came along and everything started to hum
Still it’s a real good bet, the best is yet to come!

2014 is here and the countdown begins! The BIG Day will be here before we know it!  There are less than 20 weekends left until the wedding…WOW! The best is yet to come! This year is going to be filled with so many incredible adventures.

I always love heading into the new year feeling like life is full of opportunities.  Anything is possible!  And new years is a great reminder of that.  So I thought I would share with you a few of my resolutions for 2014.

DIY or Buy?

Hello there! It’s been a while.  The holidays were just absoultely lovely.  The Mr. and I spent some quality time with his family up in Vermont this Christmas.  It was filled with love, laughs, a Christmas day hike, board games, and so much more.

While, it’s tough to come back to reality after the holidays I am excited to be back to share with you some escort card inspiration.  Escort cards can be a bit boring…and they are really the first impression of your wedding reception.  So I advise you to not let the first impression be boring.  You could buy some folded cards & then have a calligrapher do the rest.  It’s classic.  But, I recommend to add a little more personality with a quick DIY.  There are so many different ways to spruce up this element of your wedding so, don’t bow out…get creative!

I love our escort “cards,” well they aren’t really cards but, anyway I love them! They have a bit of whimsy, the display fits in with our art deco theme, and they were made by yours truly. I can’t wait to share them with you, but until then here are some other great ideas to get your wheels turning:

Happy Weekend!

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is almost here.  The Mr. & I will be in full holiday mode this weekend with Christmas shopping, Christmas cocktails, and most likely some Christmas cookies ;-)

I saw these yummies on Glitter Guide earlier this week…so I have an inkling they may be baked up in the kitchen this weekend since I am still thinking about them.

Wedding Shoes, Part II

So this whole time I have been thinking about having a shoe change after the ceremony see here, but it turns out I may not have to…  Are you sitting down? You should be!  Because I am about to rock your world!

Let me introduce to you something magical! Milk & Honey Shoes I am in love! Milk & Honey Shoes will let me have my metaphorical cake and eat it too. A little sparkle and a pop of color all in one shoe because Milk & Honey let’s you design and buy your own shoes! I know amazing right!

Here’s how this works: first go to their design now page where you will see various shoe styles (platform pumps, pumps, flats, oxford heels, oxford flats, wedges, platform wedges, wedges, boots, moto boots, booties, ankle boots, platform sandals, sandals, and flat sandals) anything a girl could want! And pick out what you want. That’s the hardest part…there are so many great options.  Then you go through super easy steps to customize the design until you find the perfect fit of sparkle and pop or whatever makes you happy!

Here are some of my favorite designs I’ve come up with so far:

Now onto the hardest part…choosing which one! Can’t I buy them all?!? Lol!

DIY or Buy?

Wedding invitations…there are so many gorgeous wedding invitation suites out there! OMG! That was actually the first thing the Mr. and I looked at, lol! We went to the most beautiful paper boutique in Portsmouth, NH just days after our engagement.  I was so excited! Just a little fair warning it only takes you about umm 5 minutes to fall in love with everything! If you are ever in that area you have to stop by Gus & Ruby, not only do they have beautiful paper goods but, they also have great gifts! But, for us buying the type of custom wedding invitation suite that I soo wanted was just not in the budget. So, I got to work! I was going to get the custom suite I wanted by DIYing my heart out.  One thing that I would definitely recommend if you plan on DIYing your wedding invites is to wait until after you have your wedding venue selected and your general design plan for the wedding: decor, cake, dress.  So you know what type of look would suit everything. I started out just researching design elements that fit with our look that I could incorporate easily.  Our venue as I have mentioned before reminds me so much of Jay Gatsby’s house straight off of the 1974 set of the film (swoon Robert Redford). So, some of our design inspiration has come from the Jazz Age.  However, at the same time I wanted to keep them modern with a bit whimsy.  Here are some of the elements that inspired me:

1, 2, 3

The design process was actually a lot of fun for me.  I would print out the updates as I incorporated different elements to show the Mr. and he would give me some input.  It was really a great team project.  Then we got them printed using our handy, dandy Groupon saving tons of money.  All that is left is assembling them, postage, and calligraphy. We were actually snowed in yesterday so, we got a good dent into the assembly process.  It was such a great sense of accomplishment seeing how it all came together.  I couldn’t be happier! Plus, I am so grateful that we didn’t have it in our budget for the fancy letterpress suite.  We would have missed out on collaborating on such an amazing project together.  We were snowed in with the fireplace on in our PJs putting them together.  It was a great day!

Bachelorette Party Planning

I have a problem allowing other people to plan anything.  It’s a control thing! My poor mother has unfortunately experienced this with the bridal shower planning…I may or may not have designed the invites, picked out the favors, and in the process hurt her feelings :( Sorry Mom! So, I am trying my best not to do this with this to my girlfriends with the Bachelorette Party Planning…trying is the operative word.

One thing that I have decided I would like to be part of the Bachelorette party is sky diving! I have always wanted to do it.  I am a little bit of an adventurist including cliff diving, kayaking, scuba diving… so why not sky diving?  I thought before I take the big leap of faith in myself and in my future husband I would take a literal big leap out of an airplane.  Lol! I can’t tell you how excited I am to do this?! And hopefully all of my favorite girls will be able to make it to either cheer me on or jump with me :)

One my bridesmaids saw a great deal on Groupon! Groupon saves the day again! See what I mean here  It’s actually still available on Groupon, for now, for other Baltimore Brides…or Grooms for that matter that might like to take the literal leap before the BIG DAY! $169 for a Tandem Skydiving Experience with $30 Photo Credit from Skydive OC ($339 Value).

A Love Affair with Milk Glass

Yet another love affair has taken hold of my wedding planning.  Don’t miss tulle, sparkle, and craspedia…my previous love affairs! There has been a fascination with milk glass, specifically hobnail milk glass, in my home decor for some time now.  Recently, I had my brother’s family & my parents over for tree trimming and dinner…my nieces started counting. I have over 10 pieces just in my kitchen, LOL! I clearly adore milk glass! It’s clean and fresh with the beautifully milky white color.  But, its also whimsical with the texture of the hobnail design.  Yay! So needless to say it was an obvious choice to include milk glass in our wedding decor.  I have collected numerous vases, a cake stand, and other goodies for the big day.  Here is a look inside the inspiration:
